of living by the ocean
swimming the last of my days
with a fish
hopping on sandy beaches
me – tax-free cream and peaches
straight and willfully lucky
like a clown
counting my blessings nightly
and drinking only lightly
left at the end of my ways
with one wish
oh please god do not allow
those waters shoal and shallow
to raise dirty and mucky
and drown me down
